Pink's In the Pink as Willow's Mommy

Pink in concert
Singer Pink, mom to 1-year-old daughter Willow, extolled the joys of motherhood in a recent interview:
“I do a lot of dancing now with [Willow] and I’m just happier ... Your career goes up and down, but … at the end of the day, if I didn’t do another thing, I’m blessed. I like myself more than I used to.”
Motherhood is a joy, but also a job, and every mom knows it. Almost half of Pink's natal chart lies in the sign of Virgo, whose greatest joy is to feel of use. As a Virgo Sun, Pink sense of self will be especially bolstered and fulfilled any time she has the opportunity to be of service in a way that is truly needed, not to mention that her Mars in nurturing Cancer is built to protect and care for those who need it. And with joyful Jupiter in playful Leo, dancing with Willow is just the kind of free-spirited, let yourself loose thing that can set a Virgo free to worry less about being perfect and live in the moment, as children do.

Despite some challenging chart connections between mom and daughter, Pink and Willow share a harmonious connection between their Jupiters and Venuses, so they'll always be able to connect on playfulness and friendship.

When They Were Young: Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has been in the news lately, yet again, due to the recent announcement that she and Brad Pitt are officially engaged. They have made it clear in past statements that they are content with their unmarried state, but that their six children would like it very much if they were to marry. They picked a great time for the commitment! Saturn, the planet of commitment, has approximately a 29 year cycle. Every 7 years or so, it asks us to commit, or renew our commitment, to something we've begun in our lives if we want to continue reaping its rewards. Angie and Brad have been together seven years. Looks like they're reinforcing their commitment! Saturn will be pleased.

With six kids of her own now, and about to become a bride, Mlle. Kiddie takes a look at what Angelina might have been like as a kid, according to her natal chart.

She was born with two planets and her south node in the sign of Gemini in the social 11th house, so she has probably always had a natural affinity for the spotlight, however bright it may have been at various times in her life. With social Venus so close to her ascendant, she probably knew how to get along with others and pick up on all the social cues and expectations of those around her. Yet, her Cancer ascendant indicates she is emotionally sensitive to the world around her and may have preferred not to reveal herself easily. Perhaps this is why she enjoyed acting from such a young age; many actors have mentioned the thrill of letting go of themselves and becoming someone else for a while.

She no doubt was very mischievous with all that Gemini energy (the trickster!) But much about her essence is very passionate and intense. Her Aries moon is joined with primal Mars, also in Aries. Managing her emotions may have been very challenging for her, as Aries is a very impulsive energy, rarely hesitating before it acts, and the Moon-Mars combo (emotions+action) suggests she would react quickly to any situation with an outburst of temper, or a quick, heated statement almost before she even knew she was doing it. She doesn't apologize for being herself and being forthright about what she wants and going after it. That would have been evident since birth!

Her edginess is apparent, in part, from the intensity of her Mars-Moon combo, and with Jupiter not far away, she certainly would have taken it to extremes in her youth, as Jupiter likes to exaggerate everything it touches. But her love of shocking others is reflected in the planet Uranus, which makes a very tight square to her ascendant. Any planet connected to the ascendant tends to make its characteristics very visible and since Uranus is the planet of the rebel, her persona was (and still is) laced with rebellion and Aries moon defiance.

Her teen years were probably quite the ride! She seems especially suited to be a mom of an eclectic bunch, being able to handle everything on the fly (Gemini sun has a great deal of flexibility) and still take charge (Aries moon). Shiloh, her first biological child, also has Uranus prominent in her chart, a strong Gemini influence, and an Aries north node. Mom will show her the way to let it all hang out!

Venus, Be My Valentine

Venus is known as the planet of love and romance, so she's naturally the star on holidays like Valentine's Day. Venus is the planet in our chart that wants to reach out to others, in love and friendship, and the sign she's in in someone's natal chart can tell us just how we like to do that. Babies born between February 8th and March 4th this year will be born while Venus is in the sign of Aries, where she's traveling right now.

Venus in Aries likes to make friends in a very direct way. If they like you, they won't beat around the bush! In their group of friends, they are likely to be the one in charge, since they know what they like and aren't shy about it. They can be very spontaneous and outgoing.

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is among many celebri-tots with Venus in Aries. She's likely to be a very energetic friend, and also quite talkative, with her Sun, Moon, and Mercury in friendly Gemini!

Willow Smith Whips Her ... Scalp?

Willow Smith, the 11-year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith who is known for her song "Whip My Hair" is now sporting a new, sleek look:

Willow Smith's Shaved Head * Posted on her WhoSay account
Willow may be young but seems to have been born with a strong sense of style, having already been seen in several show-stopping ensembles on various red carpets, with this look perhaps the edgiest so far.

It is common to find a prominent, recurring theme in a natal chart. In Willow's chart, there is a predominant Scorpio theme. Not only is her Sun and Mercury in Scorpio, but her Venus (a planet that has much to do with our style, what we find beautiful, and how we express our own beauty) is conjunct Pluto, the planet that rules Scorpio. No matter how her style evolves, it will likely always have the continuing thread of Scorpio's edginess and extremity.

It's not just about challenging or shocking others, however, but about expressing something intense and raw. While that sounds quite serious, Venus and Pluto are in the sign of Sagittarius, so there's a bit of an adventurous, "why not try it once?" attitude prevalent in her style as well. Her Sagittarius influence also explains the playfulness in her color schemes.

What will she do next?!

Michael J. Fox's Daughter Esme Spends Time With Greek Gods

Gemini Michael J. Fox appears on the June 2011 cover of Good Housekeeping Magazine, as he prepares to celebrate his 50th birthday in June. In a long interview, he shares some of the things his 4 kids enjoy, including the 'book' that his daughter Esmé is writing!
"She spent the past two weeks writing a book about Greek gods. And when I say she's written a book about Greek gods, I mean she's written a book about [them]. She's broken it down: Demeter and Apollo...she's got every Greek god listed, and a description of them, and then pictures she found on the Internet. She's a really interesting, bright 9-year-old girl."
Whether it's a hobby or a school project, it's no surprise to Mlle. Kiddie that Esmé enjoys mythology. Esmé has three planets in her 9th house of education, but the 9th house experience isn't just about learning the A-B-C's of something, but about seeking the meaning of the big questions and answers to life; it's the house of the philosopher. So what better way to philosophize than by hanging out with stories of the Greek gods?!

Storytelling is a meaningful and ancient way to explore the big questions, but Esmé will probably especially love this kind of storytelling for it's poetry, as Mercury, the planet of the mind, is exceptionally close to Venus, planet of love and beauty, in Esmé's chart. Information becomes art with this planetary combination, especially in the sign of Libra, also a sign of beauty and art. Esmé's Moon is also in the sign of Gemini, so she'll never stop wanting to learn! With her Moon also close to practical Saturn in the 6th house of work and tasks, you can be certain she knows how to organize what she's learned like a pro.

Mary-Louise Parker Sets the Stage

Mary-Louise Parker's 6-1/2 year old son William Atticus looks like he's following in his mom's footsteps. She says:

“My children are putting on shows all day long,” the 46-year-old actress says. “I have a stage in my home actually because I was tired of them using the coffee table and the dining room table. So all day long it’s, ‘Ladies and gentleman, turn off your cell phones.’"

And of her son's creative genius:

“There was a musical the other day called The Absent Spaceman that my son wrote. And he thought the song 'Hello, Dolly' was about Salvador Dalí. I swear to God, my hand to God he did. So he kind of rewrote that and made a paper mustache. It’s really cute.”

Mademoiselle Kiddie does not know William's time of birth, but what we can see of his chart doesn't seem to show that 'a star is born' at first glance. He's got a conservative, practical Capricorn Sun and a keep-to-himself, gentle Cancer Moon. His Scorpio south node shows a flair for a bit of intense drama and his Mars in Aries shows enthusiasm, but where's the bug that gets him to perform on coffee tables and write musicals? Mademoiselle has a couple of suspects:

Venus
Venus lies in the sign of Aquarius, and it is in a square to his north and south nodes of the moon, indicating that it is a strong desire of his, as well as a soul imperative, that he express his creativity. In Aquarius, he must learn to allow himself to express freely, with no judgment (self-imposed or otherwise) on whether or not his creative product is good or bad according to some artificial standard, but merely whether or not it brought him joy and expressed something true and authentic from inside of him. Aquarius isn't about fitting in, it's about the freedom to be yourself (and in this case, his creative self). It's involvement with the nodes elevates it's importance in his chart somewhat.

Mercury
Mercury is in Sagittarius, so he comes with a passion for learning and experiencing, but what's more important here is its conjunction to Pluto. Pluto intensifies anything it touches, and also brings up qualities of the under belly of things. Pluto conjoined with a planet asks "what's really going on here?" Pluto's involvement with Mercury is the difference between smarmy love novels or murderous mysteries, between limericks and dramatic odes, or the playful and innocent tone of 'Hello Dolly' or the disturbing and unusual tone of 'Salvador Dali'. Mercury likes questions, and with Pluto conjunct it, it likes the deep questions, yet in Sagittarius, there is going to be an (edgy) silliness, even absurdity in the way William's mind works.

Mercury and Venus are in a sextile relationship with each other, which means they work very well inside of William and can easily bring out the best in each other. The unique creativity of William's Venus coupled with the silly but penetrating wittiness of his Mercury/Pluto in Sagittarius might find him less on the stage in his life and more behind the writer's desk, shocking and amusing us with his insights!

Happy Father's Day: Keith & Sunday Rose

In celebration of Father's Day, Mlle. Kiddie looks at daddy-kiddo relationships this month.
Keith Urban & Sunday Rose
While Mlle. Kiddie does not know Keith's exact birth time, there is no disputing that his moon lies in the sign of Cancer, pairing up nicely with Sunday's Cancer Sun & Venus. Sunday is sure to be daddy's little girl, if daddy has any say in the matter! One of the primary ways Keith will want to take care of his little girl is to make sure she feels sheltered, and he will go to great lengths to make sure her emotional needs are met beyond her physical needs.

Cancer is a very gentle and nurturing energy but don't get between a Cancer and their baby or you'll be meeting Mama Bear, not a little crab. But with Sunday, Keith is tender and will definitely be wrapped around his daughter's little finger, probably giving in to her a little more often than a parent should since she tugs on his heartstrings so easily. His Mars in disciplined Capricorn will help him to lay down the rules a little better, even while his gentle heart breaks!

A handful of factors in Keith's chart create a potential overwhelm of intensity for Sunday. Keith's Mars lands right on Sunday's Pluto, and Keith's Pluto lands right on Sunday's Moon. Those factors coupled with Keith's intense Scorpio Sun can indicate that Keith's passion, intensity, and any issues with anger he may have can feel very frightening and overwhelming to Sunday, who has a much gentler disposition over all. Since it's Sunday's Moon (heart) and Keith's Pluto (facing fears), Sunday's desire to love and care for her dad will definitely help him become an even stronger and braver person than he already is. Of course, who can't say that parenthood has simply had to make them braver!?

Keith and Sunday also have a very Venusian influence on each other; each of their Venus is in the same sign as the other's Moon (Keith's Venus in Virgo to Sunday's Moon in Virgo, and Sunday's Venus in Cancer to Keith's Moon in Cancer). Not only do they love each other, but there's probably going to be a fair amount of liking each other and getting along, which is what Venus links between people create: harmony. This can help mitigate some of the overwhelming effects of Keith's intensity on Sunday.

Sweet and the City: Sarah Jessica Parker and Family

In a Parade Magazine interview, Sarah Jessica Parker reveals that while she is eternally enamored with New York and is married to the love of her life, that's the closest she typically gets to the similarities with her character, Carrie Bradshaw.
"I love just being with my family -- going to the grocery store, cooking dinner, putting my twins to bed, changing their diapers, getting my older son ready for school and packing his lunch. Staying home with my family and my husband is the thing I love most in the world. Is it sexy? I don't know about that, but it sure is fun and it's definitely unpredictable."
There's some great family dynamics between the charts of each of the Broderick-Parker clan (there are only four charts since the twins' charts are essentially the same). For one thing, the romance between mom and dad is pretty nice. Sarah's Venus  (style of relating & romantic connection) is in the same spot as Matthew's Sun (core identity), and it's practically reciprocal since they both have Venus and the Sun in Aries. It's important to be attracted to your partner, and these two surely are, but there's also a sense of likability between the two.

When our partner's chart connects to our Venus as they both do to each other, we are simply charmed by them. We like them, and we are prone to liking them even when they annoy us, so we may not be able to stay mad (or stay away) for long. When our partner touches our Sun in a harmonious way, again as they both do for each other, there is a feeling that we can be our true selves around them, like something about them helps us to be centered in ourselves. Their Mars are opposed each other, his in Pisces, hers in Virgo, which can seem like a negative things, and while it can have them butting heads sometimes, it also keeps the heat alive between them. It's good to have a little edge between partners, otherwise they might bore each other to death, but not so much that they can't get along, so they share a great mix.

The powerful Venus connection runs in the family! Sarah, Matthew, and James all have Venus right next to, if not right on top of, their Sun, and the twins have Venus closely related to another powerful planet, their Mars. The twins were born on a new moon, which means both their Sun and Moon are fused tightly together in the sign of Cancer, and Matthew's protective Mars in Pisces makes a lovely trine to their Sun/Moon. He's likely to have the right kind of gentle attitude toward the twins and helps them feel sheltered. James' Leo Moon is in another lovely trine with both mom and dad's Suns & Venuses, and Sarah's Jupiter touches the twins' Mars and Venus, lending them encouragement and open-heartedness.

Given so many Venus connections in this family, I'd say there's a lot of joy in this family and a real ability to get along easily with one another. No wonder Sarah just wants to stay at home with her family all the time!

Venus & Kiddie Style

fashion baby
Venus is the planet of love & beauty, just like it's goddess namesake. We humans are usually pretty caught up in all that love stuff, so it's sometimes easy to forget that by looking at Venus our charts, we can find out so much about our personal style and decorative preferences: how we like to decorate our homes and especially our bodies. It is our Venus sign that reveals what we find beautiful, and how we go about making ourselves beautiful and appealing to others (or ourselves!)

See how different Venus signs can express themselves in fashion with these celebri-tots Venus signs:

Suri Cruise:Venus in Pisces
With her Venus in Pisces, Suri is going to love the flowing dresses and beautiful colors. Fantasy is a strong love of Venus in Pisces, so anything that makes her feel out of the ordinary and a little magical is for her. Playing dress-up is not only fun for her, but a real expression of her individuality, since Uranus is right on top of Venus in her chart. As we see her style evolve, she's likely to go for unusual or avant-garde things that are cutting edge - still embracing the fantasy of Pisces but a little out-of-this-world altogether. Since Grier Hammond Henchy (daughter of Brooke Shields) shares the exact same birthday as Suri, we are likely to see something similar from her as well (although Brooke says Grier is much more into the makeup!)

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt:Venus in Aries
Although she's been criticized (at such an early age, tsk!) for her tomboy looks and it's been speculated that her parents are dressing her 'like a boy' on purpose, it's likely that Shiloh's short haircut and gender-bending fashion is more her preference than her parents'. Aries is a strong and straightforward kind of energy, so it's often categorized as more 'masculine'; therefore, with Venus in Aries, Shiloh may prefer styles that aren't over the top girly and not prefer dresses or heels that might get in the way of her ability to relax and play.

On Looking Handsome for One's Sisters: James Wilke Broderick

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick brought home twins via a surrogate last year. Sarah Jessica says:
"I came back into the room and saw James Wilke combing his hair down in a certain way and standing in front of the mirror. And he doesn't know that I heard him say, 'I have to be handsome when I meet my sisters.' It killed me."
Precious! James' Sun is conjunct Venus. Venus is the relationship planet; it is how we go about relating to others. Since Venus wants to connect with others, it represents how we go about making ourselves attractive so that those we want to connect with will want to connect with us! Since it's on top of James' Sun, part of his central makeup is to have a natural interest and awareness about what makes him likable. He's gonna grow up to be one smooth sweetheart!
