Mother Moon: Jessica Alba

Mother's Day is approaching (May 13th) so please enjoy this spotlight on the astrology of our favorite Hollywood moms! First up: Jessica Alba.

While moms (and dads) nurture their children with their whole selves, the moon sign has a lot to say about the way we care for and shelter our loved ones, especially our children. Jessica Alba, mom to 3-year-old Honor Marie and 8-month-old Haven Garner, has an individualistic Aquarius moon, so she's not likely to be the smother-mothering type. She will have a natural appreciation for the process of allowing her daughters' individuality to shine through, and give them the room to explore who they are. It is sometimes said of Aquarius that they can be too detached, but one can see from recent photos of Jessica with her kids, there's plenty of love and warmth there. She'll just be inclined to give her kids the space they need.

Jessica's four planets in Taurus, including her sun, indicate she's a pretty down-to-earth mom too, in more ways than one. Jessica has co-created The Honest Company, which strives to provide safe and sustainable baby products. Jessica was inspired to create The Honest Company when she became a parent:
"As a lot of new parents do, when I was pregnant with my first daughter Honor, I spent a ton of time looking for the best baby gear. Personally, I wanted to find natural and non-toxic products, but it was confusing to filter through the clutter of what was truly eco-friendly, what the different green claims meant, if it applied to the packaging or the ingredients inside."

"I feel this intense responsibility now to create the safest, most loving, and healthiest environment for my family."
It's no wonder. Her first child, Honor, has Saturn in the early degrees of Virgo, which forms a strong connection to Jessica's Mars in the early degrees of Taurus. Mars is what motivates us and what we're willing to create and fight for, actively. Saturn is the planet of responsibility and commitment - we feel weighed down by it, but we also are willing to work to live up to those responsibilities we feel and commitments we want to honor. So Honor's Saturn influencing and inspiring her mom to take action because of a responsibility is pretty clear and "Honor"able!

Grandpa Ozzy

Ozzy Osbourne is a grandpa! His son, Jack Osbourne and soon-to-be daughter-in-law Lisa Stelly, welcomed a daughter which they named Pearl.

Pearl was born under the steadfast and practical Taurus Sun, but she's got to keep up with the Osbourne family and her chart shows she should have no problem doing so! Her moon in Gemini very easily adapts to the world around her (although her Mars in Virgo will like to have things just so). The strong connection between Mercury and Uranus paired up in feisty Aries is the one to watch. She'll have opinions and have no problem sharing them. She won't need much encouragement in being outspoken!

How will Ozzy handle the distinguished title of grandpa? Ozzy's north node, which represents a soul's overall aim in growth, is in the sign of Taurus. Learning Taurus behaviors is about learning to slow down, to not make things overly complicated or dramatic, but let life happen as it will. Taurus also benefits from grounding itself in the sensual nature of life and living it: establishing healthy routines and enjoying the pleasure of life. While that sounds like a dream come true, it can be a challenge for someone like Ozzy with a Scorpio south node (the Taurean opposite), to let things go and live life simply, in a one-step-at-a-time manner.

Learning north node behaviors happen over the course of a lifetime, but Ozzy's just had a great tutor enter his life: granddaughter Pearl. Pearl's Sun is in Taurus, and it lays right over Ozzy's north node. Her essential nature will automatically connect with this need in him, providing him not only a reason to stop and smell the roses, but a built-in example in "beingness."

Congrats to the Osbourne family!

Taurus Signature Star Child: Rowan Frances

Rowan, soon to be 9-year-old daughter of Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy, is our featured Taurus "Star Child." The Kiddiegram reports are the heart and soul of Kiddiegram, because they were created out of a desire to help you understand and nurture your precious one in the unique ways they need. A Kiddiegram is truly a "user's manual for parents.

Rowan was born while the sun was in the sign of Taurus, a practical, easy-going, usually peaceful kind of sign. The pleasure of a nurturing routine and a stable, no-drama kind of life is usually what keeps a Taurus sun humming. Rowan was born close to the full moon, however, so while her sense of self (the sun) is bolstered by calm seas, her heart is one of high drama and intensity. Sometimes those born during a full moon seem to be an enigma, even to themselves, because they contain such dramatic opposites within themselves.

The depth and complexity of a Scorpio moon is doubly intense with Rowan, as she was also born with the south node in Scorpio. She feels deeply, she is loyal, and can have deep intuition about people, but sometimes the level of complexity inside of her may overwhelm her and others close to her. Therefore, her Taurus sun and Taurus north node are helping her to learn how to ground and release her inner turbulence, so she can feel deeply without feeling out of control.

Although Rowan's Taurus sun keeps her grounded, she has a strong streak of idealism that reveals itself through her Mars-Neptune conjunction in the sign of Aquarius. Mars represents what we are passionate about and willing to act on, while Neptune represents what we hope for and believe in. This duo combines in the sign of Aquarius, revealing that Rowan has a passion for the human spirit. Her parents will probably see this in her as a desire to do good, especially when human rights are being trampled, whether it's on a grand scale out in the world or on a more personal level such as defending those a classmate from bullies. While she feels quite personally about issues like these, she is born into a generation of people with Neptune in Aquarius, who will all share this humanitarian ideal on some level.

More from her Kiddiegram about Neptune in Aquarius:

Neptune in Aquarius
This group harbors great hopes for world unity and universal brother- and sisterhood. They are marked by an inner group impulse toward collective awakening and a strongly futuristic, visionary, evolutionary "dream". On the other hand, increasing globalization and impersonalization of daily life is strongly at work in their lives. How to contribute to the whole without becoming a cog in the machine is their quest.

McCarthy Muses on Son Evan's Dating Future

Jenny McCarthy has a new show starting soon, called Love in the Wild, so she recently shared some thoughts with Parade magazine on her son's dating future and what she predicts for him:
"I can already tell his mannerisms and behaviors with his pretend girlfriends. He'll be ahead of the guys because he's very honest with his emotions and shows affection. So he's got that covered. But he doesn't like it when anyone is sad and disappointed and I'm afraid a girl might play that card."
10 year old Evan has his moon in Leo, which can be a very demonstrative and affectionate sign. Leo moons don't like to hold back or do anything small, but have an emotional energy that is meant to express itself outward. Leos love to shower the ones they love with attention and receive it in return.

Evan also has Neptune opposite his Moon, which tends to reveal a very open heart (sometimes too open!) With Neptune aligns with the moon in any way, intuition, imagination, and creativity can certainly be present in high amounts, but most of all, it can indicate a highly empathetic heart, one who is sensitive to the moods of others around them and can relate sometimes too well to what others are feeling, even if they don't understand why someone may be feeling a certain way. Looks like Jenny knows her son well!

When They Were Young: Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie has been in the news lately, yet again, due to the recent announcement that she and Brad Pitt are officially engaged. They have made it clear in past statements that they are content with their unmarried state, but that their six children would like it very much if they were to marry. They picked a great time for the commitment! Saturn, the planet of commitment, has approximately a 29 year cycle. Every 7 years or so, it asks us to commit, or renew our commitment, to something we've begun in our lives if we want to continue reaping its rewards. Angie and Brad have been together seven years. Looks like they're reinforcing their commitment! Saturn will be pleased.

With six kids of her own now, and about to become a bride, Mlle. Kiddie takes a look at what Angelina might have been like as a kid, according to her natal chart.

She was born with two planets and her south node in the sign of Gemini in the social 11th house, so she has probably always had a natural affinity for the spotlight, however bright it may have been at various times in her life. With social Venus so close to her ascendant, she probably knew how to get along with others and pick up on all the social cues and expectations of those around her. Yet, her Cancer ascendant indicates she is emotionally sensitive to the world around her and may have preferred not to reveal herself easily. Perhaps this is why she enjoyed acting from such a young age; many actors have mentioned the thrill of letting go of themselves and becoming someone else for a while.

She no doubt was very mischievous with all that Gemini energy (the trickster!) But much about her essence is very passionate and intense. Her Aries moon is joined with primal Mars, also in Aries. Managing her emotions may have been very challenging for her, as Aries is a very impulsive energy, rarely hesitating before it acts, and the Moon-Mars combo (emotions+action) suggests she would react quickly to any situation with an outburst of temper, or a quick, heated statement almost before she even knew she was doing it. She doesn't apologize for being herself and being forthright about what she wants and going after it. That would have been evident since birth!

Her edginess is apparent, in part, from the intensity of her Mars-Moon combo, and with Jupiter not far away, she certainly would have taken it to extremes in her youth, as Jupiter likes to exaggerate everything it touches. But her love of shocking others is reflected in the planet Uranus, which makes a very tight square to her ascendant. Any planet connected to the ascendant tends to make its characteristics very visible and since Uranus is the planet of the rebel, her persona was (and still is) laced with rebellion and Aries moon defiance.

Her teen years were probably quite the ride! She seems especially suited to be a mom of an eclectic bunch, being able to handle everything on the fly (Gemini sun has a great deal of flexibility) and still take charge (Aries moon). Shiloh, her first biological child, also has Uranus prominent in her chart, a strong Gemini influence, and an Aries north node. Mom will show her the way to let it all hang out!

Moses Martin Growing Up

Moses Martin, son of actress Gwyneth Paltrow and rocker Chris Martin, celebrated his 6th birthday this weekend. Like many of his Hollywood cohorts, such as Satyana Denisof and Suri Cruise, he was born under the vibrant and active sign of Aries

Growing up as an Aries is about developing a strong sense of self and the courage to discover the world in a way that isn't held back or overly cautious. His moon is in the expressive sign of Leo, so under this double fire influence, Moses is really learning to express himself without worrying about what others think or whether he's stepping on any toes. Moses has a south node in the sign of Libra, so he may have more of a natural tendency to hold back and let others lead and give him a sense of what the social expectations are, so having an unapologetic Aries sun and "here I am, world" Leo moon will help him grow up to feel more comfortable in a starring role in his own life.

Mars, the planet of action and drive and the ruler (having an affinity with) Aries, is in the sign of Gemini, linked to intense Pluto. His drive to explore the world through almost obsessive curiosity is multi-faceted. He wants to know everything, and he wants to know it right now, in a hands-on, experiential way! This combination could work to create a backyard-and-beyond explorer, eager to experience the world first hand with his own senses. He wants  the big answers and keep 'em coming!

Monroe & Moroccan: Growing Up Fast

The 10-month-old twins of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are already on their way to walking and talking and getting into all kinds of trouble, according to what dad Nick said to US Weekly:
"We just [baby-proofed] the house recently, but they are so smart. They know how to take the knobs and the baby proof stuff off. They know what's baby proof, so they are like, 'We are not suppose to be touching that -- so we are going to go touch that!' It's crazy!"
Monroe's and Moroccan's chart shows Gemini ascendant and a Gemini south node, so they've got a double dose of Gemini to double their trouble. One of the primary characteristics of Gemini is curiosity. If anything can be pried open or pulled apart, they will do it just to see how something works.

Gemini loves a puzzle, and Aries loves a challenge. The twins share no less than 6 planets in the sign of Aries, so they know what they want and will not be at all patient in going after it. While babies will eventually get frustrated when they can't make something work, this pair is not likely to give up easily. Their tenacious Taurus Sun coupled with the single-minded passion of Aries will serve them well in getting what they want. The urge to pull things apart and investigate, coupled with a drive to do it impulsively and without hesitation, will surely set an incredibly fast pace for mom and dad. Distracting them may be mom and dad's only defense!

Parenting with Astrology: Nurturing (not predicting) Your Child's Future

Amy Herring has been a professional astrologer for 15 years and a proud mother for 6 of those years. She has joyfully accepted Mlle. Kiddie’s gracious offer to share her thoughts once a month here at Kiddie Star Signs. To find out more about Amy and her personal readings for parents and children, visit her website at http://heavenlytruth.com.

Money and fame don’t solve every problem. Celebrity moms have their hopes and worries for their children too. However, Mlle. Kiddie would like to offer ‘everyday’ moms a chance to see astrology put into action to answer their parenting questions. After all, famous or not, you’re the world to your kids! If you’ve got a question about your child that you’d like Amy to answer, send your questions any time to amy@heavenlytruth.com.

Jaana writes:
My 11 year-old youngest son is a very ordinary student in school, but the fortuneteller told me that he´s going to be a professor of mathematics some day. How does this argument can be proved by means of astrology, even if the child's school doesn't support this assertion?
He is sure smart, creative and artistic, but the school has suppressed creativity and the joy of learning. Although it is said that the Finnish school is the world's best place to learn, but the truth is that it kills creativity. How do I get the best of him?

Your first question addresses an important issue that is especially sensitive when it comes to interpreting children's charts, and that is the question of fate. Astrology is practically older than dirt, and when practiced by ancient cultures was typically used to determine one's fate. However, in recent times, more astrologers are using astrology as a way to nurture the natural tendencies of an individual rather than dictate their fate. The concept of free will is, in fact, central to many practicing astrologers today, myself included, and it can be quite damaging to someone to assume that their fate can be predicted in detail from their natal chart.

If your child shows skills and interest in mathematical subjects, it's certainly quite possible that he may wind up as a professor of mathematics someday. But it is this astrologer's opinion that that will depend on a number of factors, not the least of which are the choices he makes.

Venus right on his Ascendant and in its own sign of Libra makes it very strong. As well as a relationship-oriented planet, Venus has a lot to do with what we find beautiful and how we express that beauty, so it plays a part in our creative and artistic talents, interests, and style. He'll likely use Venus qualities (charm, artistic and creative sensibilities, social grace, etc.) to navigate the world throughout his life, as a primary lens through which he sees the world and interacts with it.

If you find that his school doesn't provide enough opportunities, helping him find his own outlets through home projects, extracurricular activities, or clubs can provide a much needed outlet. His meticulous Virgo Sun and Mars may have him enjoying creative activities that involve learning and excelling at specific skills to produce a result. He may also enjoy working specifically with his hands to create functional items rather than abstract art.

His Virgo influences, coupled with his Capricorn south node, indicate he is sensitive to guidelines, expectations, and rules, set forward by authority figures and social or educational systems. He may feel pressure to do things correctly, and according to the accepted "norm," so it's often going to be easier for him to follow the program rather than write his own rules. Helping him build his confidence in himself and his own instincts, creative or otherwise, will be beneficial and help him move toward well-roundedness.

Hope this provides some insight. Thanks for your question!
