Signature Aries Star Child: Suri Cruise

Suri Cruise is our featured Aries "Star Child" and Mlle. Kiddie is delighted to share her entire Kiddiegram report with you. The Kiddiegram reports are the heart and soul of Kiddiegram, because they were created out of a desire to help you understand and nurture your precious one better than ever. It's truly a "user's manual!"
"What is amazing about [a Kiddiegram], is that you can read it as your son grows. Read it when you get it, then put it away with his birth record. In years to come you both will read it again! Yes, you will be amazed!"

Suri is about to celebrate her 5th birthday on April 18th. The last four birthdays have had some pretty spectacular celebrations. Here's a look back:

Suri's first birthday party was a birthday lunch of pizza and cupcakes with family and friends. Her parents reportedly spent $100,000 on her butterfly-themed second birthday party.

Her third birthday had a classic princess theme (perfect for Suri who apparently never wants to wear anything but a dress!) She celebrated with a Disney Princess Belle birthday cake and a treasure hunt. Her fourth birthday was one huge tea-party, along with a scavenger hurt and swimming. Cupcakes were the featured sweet treat.

No word yet on what the 5th one will entail, but Mlle. Kiddie is sure it will top them all! With Neptune close to Suri's Ascendant, she certainly will always like an element of imagination and fantasy in her life. As she gets older, it may not always be princess and tea-parties, but you can be sure that Suri will enjoy a step into 'another world'. Following in her parents' footsteps as an actress might just be ideal for Suri, as those with Neptune conjunct their Ascendant can easily step into various roles and try on different personas, quite convincingly.

Happy Birthday Aries Kids!

The Sun is in Aries from March 20th to April 20th this year. Happy birthday to all those Aries kiddos (and mommies and daddies)!

Aries children embody the burst of life and energy that is representative of the first sign of the new year. They are learning an approach to life that is about not holding back, but developing courage as they unabashedly leap before they look.

Not all Aries children are daredevils from the get go, nor are all of them inclined to display their Aries traits in primarily a physical way, but the classic image of Aries is the child leaping from the counter shouting "Look Ma, no hands!" They are meant to live life with no reserves, so they often don't think things through or act with caution, and they don't hold back when demanding what they want from you or anyone else! Their enthusiasm is contagious and their willingness to try new things as they are always on the look out for new adventures is engaging.

Aries Michael Wahlberg turned five years old this week. With his Moon in Sagittarius, another fiery and impulsive sign, his instincts to throw himself into life and just 'see what happens' with a playful attitude are going to grow as he gets older. He's most likely up for anything and as most fire signs, he'll enjoy physical activity as a way to release his abundance of energy. Dad Mark has said of Michael:

“My son is obsessed with boxing! As soon as we got home he wants to go in the ring and just pound the crap out of me. He puts on the gloves, tells me to get on my hands and knees and to put my hands behind my back and he just punches me as hard as he can. Fun for him, not fun for me because literally I was like, ‘This kid is staring to hit hard man!’ I had a bit of a headache.”
More on Michael's Aries Sun from his Kiddiegram:

"Michael has a strong need to act boldly and vigorously in living his life according to his own standards (and no one else's!). He will need to be encouraged to finish what he starts, to follow through, and to develop stamina and persistence, because sometimes he will enthusiastically begin a project only to drop it once the initial rush of excitement wanes. Enthusiasm, initiative, self-reliance, courage, and an eager, positive attitude toward life are his strong points."

It's a New Top Chef, Baby!

Tom Colicchio (Top Chef) and his wife Lori Silverbush have welcomed their third child, Mateo Lev. That's a house of boys for Lori, as Mateo joins his brothers Leo Luka Bodhi, and Dante, and, of course, his Leo dad, Tom.

With 5 planets in the 10th house, Mateo is here to come out into the world and make a name for himself. Whether or not that means he ends up being 'famous', he will certainly be recognized for whatever work he chooses to do and whatever legacy it leaves. The 10th house can be said to represent our 'mission statement' in the world--what we get noticed for doing when we're really just following a path that feels right for us.

All those 10th house planets in the sign of Aries reveal a need to develop a pioneering approach, forging his own territory and doing things his way. This is especially true with Saturn in the 4th house, opposite those Aries planets, most closely opposite Jupiter. Saturn in the 4th house of family may represent one or both of his parents, and the traditions and values they will instill in Mateo at a young age. This can be a great thing, but it will also be important as Mateo gets older, to develop and pursue his own desires that may very well stray far from his tradition. Even if he follows in his father's footsteps as a chef, he would need to do it very differently to stay true to that Jupiter in Aries, which wants to be free to do things its own way.

More on Jupiter in the 10th house from Mateo's Kiddiegram:
As a youngster, Mateo Lev will want to learn all he can about how the "real" (adult) world operates, and how to be effective in it. If a parent or grandparent allows this child to watch them work and takes time to explain the hows and whys of what they are doing, he'll be a wonderful little apprentice.

Mateo Lev will be blessed with teachers, mentors, and benefactors who will take a special interest in him building his belief and confidence in himself As a result, he'll have grand aspirations and expectations of what he can achieve in the world. Whether he's of humble origins or born with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth, he'll aim high. Sometimes other children, or even adults, may envy him for his.
He's going to need a lot of support and encouragement when it comes to 'coming out' and letting himself shine. He'll be a very creative person with his moon in the 5th house of creativity and play, but with his north node in the 6th house in the sign of Sagittarius, he's really learning to put his creative ideas into action in the real world!

Congrats to Tom and Lori!

Happy Birthday Nahla & Jagger

Mlle. Kiddie is seeing double with both Pisces Nahla Aubry and Pisces Jagger Goldberg celebrating birthdays this week. They were born just a day apart and are turning 3 years old!

Being born only a day apart means their charts will look pretty similar, but while they are both Pisceans, Nahla's moon is in the sign of Cancer while Jagger's is in the sign of Leo, creating a very different dynamic. Pisces kids tend to be imaginative and tender, and as a water sign, they are more emotionally-oriented. Coupled with another water sign, a Cancer moon, Nahla is comforted and gives comfort and love by being protective, probably enjoying lots of hugs and cuddle time, and taking care of her mom, Halle, just as much as she is taken care of. With double water signs, her emotional sensitivity is increased as well as her instinct toward tenderness and kindness.

Pisces coupled with the moon sign Leo, as in Jagger's chart, accentuates the imagination of Pisces as well as the playfulness. Leo is a fire sign and can tend toward the dramatic as it loves to express itself, so Soleil Moon Frye might just have an actress on her hands! She may also likely be a little more dominant of a personality than Pisces may normally be, since Pisces likes to 'go with the flow' but Leo likes to be King (or, ahem, Queen) of all they survey. It is sometimes very easy to enjoy being around Pisces because of their sweetness and easy-going attitude, and with a Leo moon, Jagger probably knows how to lay on the charm, shining from inside without even trying.

Happy birthday, mes cheries!

Between Mom and Baby, Compatibility is Elemental

Astrology can reveal a great deal about the compatibility between two people. Most of the time we see that in astrology and romance:
"Are a Scorpio and Leo compatible?" "I'm a Virgo and he's a Gemini: should we get married?"
Astrologers hear these questions all the time, and are usually quick to reveal that there is more to astrological compatibility than just a comparison of sun signs. The signs of Venus, Mars, and the Moon all come into play, at the very least. Often, the best use of astrology when analyzing compatibility isn't always whether or not two people are compatible, but more often aimed at helping two people know how to get along and understand each other better, something that can be quite useful when analyzing the charts of parents and children.

Each sign has something to learn from and teach every other sign, but some signs have more things in common than others, such as the same element. Signs of the same element often have an easier time naturally getting along with each other. Earth signs all share a love of practicality, for instance, while Air signs share a love of communication and information.

Kiddiegram has just the guide you need to get to know the primary elements in your chart and your child's chart. You can calculate a Kiddiegram for you and also for your child, and use it to determine each planet's element in your chart. Then enjoy our free parent/child interactive guide and find out immediately how to connect better with your child.

Are you an earth sign mom with a water sign child? You can teach your child about a healthy routine, but remember they may not always stick to a schedule as easily as you. An air sign mom with an earth sign child? Both of you enjoy a tendency toward the reasonable, but they may not be as forthcoming with their communication as you.

Grandma Martha Stewart!

Martha Stewart is officially a grandma since her daughter, Alexis, welcomed a baby girl via surrogate. Pisces baby Jude came into the world early on March 8th, 2011.

It's unclear where baby Jude was born, so Mlle. Kiddie has defaulted to New York City, where mom Alexis lives. She's got a wealth of Pisces planets including the Sun, Mars, Mercury, and Uranus. If she was actually born in New York City, all these planets, as well as Neptune, will be in her 3rd house, which represents the things in our lives that we do to learn and communicate. Her mind will work in Piscean ways, which means this girl will have an incredible imagination.

Not only that, but Mercury, the planet of the mind and learning, is in Pisces and right next to Uranus, which is a planet of innovation. Her mind won't work like a lot of people expect, in linear, A-B-C fashion, but in an open, lightning-quick sort of way. She'll be teaching her mom a thing or two from an early age!

Jude also has an Aries Moon, so she'll be quick to act and react to life around her. Here's more about baby Jude's Aries Moon from her Kiddiegram:
High spirited and lively, this child needs action and she loves to be moving. She is attracted to anything with speed and energy, and to anything that involves challenge or competition (like running a race). She does things quickly, sometimes carelessly, and she hates to wait for anything. She can be very temperamental and impatient if the pace is too slow, and she gets frustrated with herself when she cannot master a task right away. She wants very much to be independent. She also wants very much to win, to be the first, to be the best.

Congrats to Martha and Alexis on their new addition!

Hailee Steinfeld: Best Supporting Actress Nominee

14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld garnered an Academy Award nomination for her role in True Grit. She played the role of Mattie Ross, a young girl who tries to track down her father's murderer and bring him to justice. Her character is smart, motivated, powerful, and very mature for her age.

Not unlike Hailee herself!

Hailee came to acting with great determination. She made an agreement with her mother to "study for one full year" before allowing her to take further steps toward an acting career, an agreement she stuck to (and boy, did it pay off!)

Her steady commitment comes as no surprise to Mlle. Kiddie. If Hailee were born in the wee hours of the morning, she may have a Sagittarius Moon, but in all likelihood, her moon is in the sign of Capricorn. She has the heart (moon) of the same stuff her on-screen character: maturity and determination. Capricorn wants to set its sights on a goal and then drive steadily toward it until it's achieved. Her Kiddiegram reveals just how true this is:
Hailee is an industrious, rather serious, practical little person, not the light, frivolous, happy-go-lucky type. To feel secure, she needs structure and a clearly defined set of rules and boundaries. Conscientious and mature even in youth, Hailee can be relied upon to keep her commitments. Sometimes her "obligations" weigh heavily upon her, however, and life seems like serious business indeed, so try not to expect too much or burden her with more responsibility than is really necessary.
Truly though, even without the Capricorn Moon, Hailee would have drive and determination in her very soul, as she was born with it. With her south node in the sign of Aries, and Saturn right on top of it, she will probably have a thing or two to learn about actually not pushing so hard or expecting so much of herself as she grows up. Aries is the sign of initiative and primal force; it leaps into life at full speed. Saturn's handling those reins, though, so her urge to race ahead is tempered by maturity, the realization of the need to plan, and to take the time to develop skill and expertise.

Elsewhere in her chart, her Sagittarius Sun will have her optimistically shooting for the stars (pardon the pun) and with Jupiter in Capricorn in a conjunction with Neptune, the emphasis on a practical, steady (Capricorn) but lofty rise (Jupiter) toward her dreams (Neptune) will ensure this Academy Award nomination will be only the first of many achievements to be proud of.

Parenting with Astrology: Issues with Authority

Amy Herring has been a professional astrologer for 15 years and a proud mother for 5 of those years. She has joyfully accepted Mlle. Kiddie’s gracious offer to share her thoughts once a month here at Kiddie Star Signs. To find out more about Amy and her personal readings for parents and children, visit her website at http://heavenlytruth.com.

Money and fame don’t solve every problem. Celebrity moms have their hopes and worries for their children too. However, Mlle. Kiddie would like to offer ‘everyday’ moms a chance to see astrology put into action to answer their parenting questions. After all, famous or not, you’re the world to your kids! If you’ve got a question about your child that you’d like Amy to answer, send your questions any time to amy@heavenlytruth.com.

A Seattle mom writes:
We want to understand how to place boundaries without stifling the main needs and purpose our daughter, Wendy. She seems to have huge authority issues and trying to get her to follow the rules, which she breaks every couple of days, has become a tiresome ordeal for all of us. How can we best parent her so that she doesn't feel like authority is dimming her light?

Amy answers:
Wendy's south node is in Aquarius, right next to Uranus, which are strong indicators in her chart that indicate she came into life with rebel energy. Such a wealth of Aquarius, including her Ascendant, corresponds to a strong need for freedom and the right to express herself in whatever way she sees fit.

Her Sun and Moon in Scorpio can represent a spectrum of traits and lessons, but in light of this question, getting a sense of her own power is going to be a prominent one. The sentiment "with great power comes great responsibility" is going to be a key factor for her learning how to manage (I get the image of her trying to ride a bucking horse inside herself). With that Sun and Moon in the opposite place as Saturn (a planet that represents our relationship to authority & rules), she will often more easily experience authority as something that is outside her or 'opposed' her.

A key to the solution might be found in her Mars in Capricorn. Mars is our will and our ability to go after what we want, to assert that will. Capricorn is a sign of responsibility and self-government, something that healthy Saturn also represents. In her chart, Saturn is in a trine with Mars in Capricorn. Capricorn tends to respond well to goals and aims; having something to shoot for or work for gives them focus and motivation. Perhaps giving her as much freedom as she can have by letting the little things go as often as possible, while also setting up rules in a manner that allows for her participation rather than her obedience can help shift her perspective from that knee-jerk stance of opposition. She will not respond well to 'micro-management', so giving her freedom within the rules to do them in her own style or perhaps in her own time, again as much as possible, may help.

In essence, she will be learning over her life to be her own authority, rather than creating a polarity of the outside world and all it's cruel rules vs. her inner world of freedom without consequences. She's learning it's not about fighting oppression but learning that you can decide what you want to create but only if you are willing to work by being in charge of yourself and acting accordingly.

However, that doesn't mean free reign to ignore things that affect the entire family. Capricorn tends to respond well to natural law and consequences: if you do this, you get this outcome. If you don't, you get this outcome, so while this works well for almost any child, I would say that making her consequences of breaking rules or failing to follow through on tasks as natural as possible will have more impact, instead of an arbitrary punishment such as taking away television privileges, for example. The more she can see that when she does or doesn't do something, she does or doesn't get the outcome she likes, and you won't change that or fix it for her, the more chance it has of having an impact on her. Finding ways to allow her consequences to directly cause her a problem can create that inner motivation to fix it if she doesn't want that consequence.

Making peace with the fact that you will not be able to control her choices, even if she makes bad ones and brings on negative consequences for herself may also be part of your personal process as parents. Look at ways you are or are not willing to allow her to bring on the consequences of her own choices that you wouldn't want for her. You'll also need to think about how to defend your boundaries in the right way so that you are a nurturing influence for her and not neglectful, but also don't take her consequences on as your problem to fix.

Beyond her basic personality, there are some triggers she is currently experiencing which are probably making this issue feel like it's getting out of hand or coming to a head. Transiting Saturn now moving through the sign of Libra has been forming a tense relationship to her own Mars, probably sparking that sense of my will vs. authority's will, and maybe prompting a stoic refusal to yield. Yet it can be a ripe time to teach her about natural consequences of that refusal that have nothing to do with your enforcement, but simply reality.

The most striking influence lately is that her progressed moon has just moved into Aries in the past 3 weeks or so. The progressed moon reveals where one's emotional responses, needs, and attention are aimed. Moving from Pisces, which tends to carry a more submissive and gentle tone, to Aries, which is a more feisty and impulsive energy, is going to have her testing limits and pushing boundaries left and right. When this energy first changes, it tends to be quite strong (and new), so she's probably experiencing quicker reactions (including anger) and wanting to take more of the lead in her own life. The progressed moon is so powerful, I wrote a whole book about it: Astrology of the Moon.
