Kate Hudson was late for the People's Choice Awards (AP Photo/Chris Pizzello) because she was stuck in traffic after a post school birthday party for her five year old son Ryder. Ellen DeGeneres took her place to give out the evening's first award saying Hudson was stuck in traffic...later when apologizing for her tardiness Hudson noted" I'm one tired Mom" and she wished her son a happy birthday when accepting the "Favorite Leading Lady" Award .Ryder is a very grounded little guy, with an Earth sign Sun (Capricorn). It's great that his Fire Sign (Aries) Mom is able to balance his birthday needs with her career.
