Astrology for Regular Kids and Their Super Parents

Amy Herring has been a professional astrologer for 15 years and a proud mother for 4 of those years. She has joyfully accepted Mlle. Kiddie’s gracious offer to share her thoughts once a month here at Kiddie Star Signs. To find out more about Amy and her personal readings for parents and children, visit her website at http://heavenlytruth.com.

Money and fame don’t solve every problem. Celebrity moms have their hopes and worries for their children too. However, I’d like to offer ‘everyday’ moms a chance to see astrology put into action to answer their parenting questions. After all, famous or not, you’re the world to your kids! If you’ve got a question about your child that you’d like Amy to answer, send your questions to amy@heavenlytruth.com.

This month, Bel writes:

Having raised my daughter, Pam, I have a good idea where her strengths lie, but since she is just a couple of years from graduating, what areas should I encourage her to consider as she starts thinking about college? She has expressed some interest in the army *gulp*. She is also artistically gifted and seems to have a natural ability with animals. Is there anything you can tell me about the best direction in which to encourage her?

I’d like to offer Bel some answers to her question, as well as offer a general idea about how a chart can communicate answers about career and schooling.

I can see Pam has a love of adventure and learning in general, with her Sun and Mercury in Gemini and her Sagittarius Ascendant. Her chart ruler is Jupiter since it rules her Sagittarius Ascendant, and it is in Scorpio, a sign that wants to get to the bottom of things, so the desire to KNOW is very strong with her. Since her Sun is in the 6th house, she will ‘shine’ most easily in a profession that offers a lot of different facets and lots of change so she can keep learning and never be finished satisfying her curiosity. She has a lower tolerance for predictability than some of us, so the trick for her in any job will be learning to challenge herself and seek out learning opportunities on her own initiative, since any job can be boring some of the time.

Since her Midheaven is in Libra and her south node is in the 5th house, both potential signatures of creativity, I can see her artistic ability, and if she felt she wanted to pursue it I certainly wouldn’t stop her. However, with Mercury and Venus, the ruler of her Midheaven, both in the 7th house, she may get more stimulation from collaborative efforts, enhancing the partnership angle of Libra over the artistic one, which can sometimes be an isolating profession depending on the nature of one’s art.

A secondary theme lies with her Capricorn Moon in the 1st house, and her chart ruler, Jupiter, being in the 10th house, as well as her north node and Pluto in the 11th house. With a Capricorn heart, she is happiest when she has a sense of achievement and self-direction and with it in her first house, she is emotionally rewarded when she is an initiator, setting goals and reaching them under her own power. She may thrive under the kind of discipline and clear structure that the army can provide, although that is by no means the only avenue to that end.

With Jupiter in the 10th house, she will always have an eye on how she can reach her potential out in the world, but with Pluto and her north node in the 11th, she will have her work cut out for her to really apply herself in long term projects, rather than doing what just feels good in the moment (her south node is in Taurus in the 5th house). She may also be fighting a hidden fear about what will happen when she is in a leadership position, something she may dream about but may also shrink from. She will need time and experience living her life to explore the nature of those fears, and the strengths that lie behind them, in more detail. Empowering experiences that help her gain a sense of pride and accomplishment is key to her walking the path of a leader.

All in all, schooling and later a work environment that feeds her curiosity, always has potential for growth in intellectual as well as tangible ways such as avenues for promotion, and encourages her initiative can be very good for her. It is probably what appeals to her about the Army. She doesn’t have to go that route alone to get these things, but it can be a good one. The life of an artist or working with animals can also be rewarding, but may be less rigorous and clear than she needs.

When looking at a chart to answer career questions, always start with the Sun, Moon, and Rising. The Sun is the core identity, the Moon what feeds one’s happiness, and the Rising is one’s approach to life and to the world. These things will factor into any question. Beyond that, look to the signs and planets that fall in earth houses: 2nd (money, resources, self-worth), 6th (work environment, attitude toward work, working style), and 10th (mark one wants to make on the world, roles we are meant to play).

Thanks for a great question, Bel! Hope it was helpful. See you all next month.

A Tale of Two Cities, Sheen's Tales of Whoa! & Woe

Married in May of 2008, Charlie Sheen and his wife Brooke Mueller have announced that they are expecting a baby. In June his new wife talked about having triplets.
Hopefully triplets! Could you imagine if I really had triplets? He'd be like, 'Whoa!'"
The earlier tales of woe surrounding the child custody issues Sheen and his second wife Denise Richards dotted the entertainment news for months. The couple shown here in happier times (2005) have two daughters. Sam J. and Lola Rose. Sam, at four and Lola three already have their own IMDb listings after appearing on their Mom's show. (photo of their parents by Chris Pizzello / AP)

Sam (Samantha) born March 9, 2004 has a Sun in Pisces, her sister Lola was born June 1, 2005. Her Sun is in Gemini and her Moon is in Aries. If Sam was born before dinner on the 9th her Moon is in Libra, otherwise it will be in the sign of Scorpio. Richards is an Aquarius (Feb 17, 1972 in Downers Grove, IL ) with an Aquarius Sun conjunct her Mercury in Aquarius. Depending on her birth time, she has either a Moon in Pisces or a Moon in Aries. We're betting Aries. Sheen's a Virgo with a Moon in Sagittarius. Here's his chart wheel and his Kiddiegram report.
